Panasonic releases Lumix DMC-FS12, FS62 and FS42

Panasonic has announced the addition of three new compact cameras to its Lumix FS series. The 12MP FS12 with 4x (31-124mm equiv.) optical zoom and a 2.7" LCD incorporates Intelligent Auto mode, Optical Image Stabilization and Face Detection. The FS42 and image-stabilized FS62 are both packed with 10 megapixel sensors, 2.5" LCDs, 4x (33-132mm equiv.) zoom lenses and include features such as Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Scene Selector and Face Detection. We expect the FS62 to be widely available, the other two models through select retailers.

Sony unleashes five new Cyber-shots

Pre-PMA 2009: Sony has decided today would be a good day to unleash five new Cyber-shot digital cameras on the world. From the top we have the ten times optical zoom, image stabilized DSC-H20 which has a ten megapixel CCD. Next we have two twelve megapixel W-series models, the four times zoom W230 and the five times zoom W290. Then come two new slim, twelve megapixel, touch-screen T-models, the T90 and T900, the latter of which demands an $80 premium for its 0.5" larger higher-resolution LCD. All of the models announced today, with one exception (the W230), shoot 720p HD video and have an "Intelligent Auto" mode (where have we seen that before?).

Panasonic premieres ZS3 / TZ7 with AVCHD lite video

Pre-PMA 2009: Panasonic has announced the release of the DMC-ZS3 (DMC-TZ7 in Europe), the first of six new digital compact cameras, and also the first camera to record AVCHD lite HD videos. The ZS3 is also packed with some impressive video and audio features such as 48kHz sample rate and Dolby Digital Stereo Creator for high quality audio, a Wind Cut function and Intelligent Auto mode for video recording. This 10MP camera (10MP output from a 12MP sensor) also comes along with a 3 inch hi-resolution LCD, 12x optical zoom (25-300mm equiv), Optical Image Stabilizer, and Advanced Face Recognition.

Panasonic unveils DMC-TS1 rugged compact camera

Pre-PMA 2009: Panasonic has launched the DMC TS1 (DMC-FT1 in europe), its first rugged digital compact and the world's first to feature AVCHD lite HD video recording. The TS1 is designed to be dustproof, waterproof up to 3 meters and shockproof up to 1.3 meters. It incorporates AVCHD Lite video compression in 3 quality levels to allow longer HD video recording. A Wind Cut function helps block out background wind noise during video recording. Sporting a 12.1MP sensor, 28-129mm equivalent lens and 2.7" LCD, the camera also includes features such as Intelligent Auto Mode, Optical Image Stabilizer and Face recognition.
