Canon announces update for EOS 5D Mark II

Canon has announced a firmware update for its EOS 5D Mark II digital SLR enabling manual exposure when shooting videos. With the updated version, users will be able to manually adjust the shutter speed, aperture and ISO settings in the video mode. The new firmware will be available for download on 2 June 2009 from Canon's website.

We've posted samples images from the Nikon D5000 DSLR. We borrowed a production specification version of Nikon's latest digital camera and made the best of the London weather. Most of the shots have been taken using the Nikkor 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 VR and at default settings. However, we've tried to use a range of the camera's ISO settings, two of its scene modes (including the new Silhouette mode) and even tried turning Active D-Lighting off for some of the low-light samples. We've added these samples to the end of our hands-on preview.

Just Posted: Our preview sample gallery from the Olympus E-620. London can be quite gray at this time of year, so we thought we'd capitalize on our time in the US by putting together a sample gallery with a final production version of the new upper entry-level DSLR from Olympus. We've included a mixture of ISO settings and a couple of shots using the camera's Pin Hole art filter.

DC Resource has posted a review of the Olympus E-30 . Images are fairly sharp by D-SLR standards, with lots of detail captured. In terms of noise, the E-30 performs quite well, though if you look hard enough you’ll spot some noise in shadow areas of a photo (even at lower ISO settings). Photo Review has posted a review of the Canon 5D Mark II. Image noise was barely visible in test shots taken at ISO settings up to 3200, regardless of whether they were short or long exposures. Beyond that point, the visibility of noise increased steadily, although colour accuracy and sharpness were retained right up to ISO 25,600.
